In 2012, J&J reported that there were over 400 lawsuits filed against the company. The plaintiff, Aaron Banks, was a 21-year-old who claimed in his lawsuit that his Risperdal use caused him to suffer gynecomastia side effects, a condition characterized by abnormal breast growth in males. In addition, Banks alleged that he suffered psychological trauma caused by the male breast growth, claims that a recent gynecomastia study has supported. According to the research, even mild breast growth among boys can have serious psychological side effects, possibly impacting the victim’s self-esteem, mental health and social functioning.
